I grew up in southeast Kansas and moved to Kansas City when I was ready for a change. At the time, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I started working at a salon selling shampoo, and that’s where I realized I really liked the hair industry. Being around it every day made me want to go to hair school, so I did.

After starting school, I began working in a salon as a stylist. That’s where I met Ashley. We were friends for a couple of years before we started dating, and later we were married in Mexico.

We eventually bought Birdcage from an aquaintence without knowing exactly what the future would look like. Eighteen years later, it’s been pretty amazing to see how far we’ve come. Building a life and a business together hasn’t always been easy, but I’m proud of what we’ve built and excited for what’s ahead.
