I grew up moving all over the country before landing in Kansas during high school. At 17, I began hair school — and during a salon tour, I remember noticing a calm, confident owner completely grounded in who she was. That energy stayed with me.

 

In 2008, at just 23 years old, my husband Nathan and I purchased Birdcage with only a few hundred dollars in our business account and a lot of faith. The early years were humbling, but they shaped the culture we’re known for today: calm, passionate, reliable, and elevated.

 

For over two decades, I’ve worked behind the chair while also mentoring stylists — watching them learn, grow, and step into their confidence as artists. Helping them see hair through the lens of shape and color, rather than something routine or generic, is one of the most fulfilling parts of my career.

 

It has also been an incredible joy to grow alongside my clients — celebrating weddings, babies, career milestones, and reinventions. After decades together, many of them truly feel like family. Being invited into those life moments is something I never take lightly.
